Restaurant JAN Franschhoek

JAN Franschhoek was created by South African chef Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen, whose main restaurant story began with JAN in Nice.

Franschhoek takes the idea in a very different direction.

Dinner happens inside the small Veepos cottage at La Motte. Guests sit around one communal table, so the evening feels closer to a carefully staged dinner at someone’s home than a conventional restaurant with separate tables.

For Jan, the project is tied to returning to South Africa, family memories, local ingredients, and the flavours he grew up with.

Seasonality matters beyond the menu too. JAN Franschhoek does not operate year-round, so this is one of those places where the dates need to shape the trip rather than the other way around.
