There's an interesting story behind this place.

Originally, the building belonged to pharmacist and sports enthusiast Herbert Tothill, who turned it into a gathering place for athletes. During the apartheid era, it was home to a hidden speakeasy where people of different races could meet despite the laws of the time.

The Athletic Club & Social has preserved that spirit, transforming this historic space into one of Cape Town's most atmospheric bars.
