RUST-EN-VREDE GALLERY + CLAY MUSEUM
A South African contemporary art gallery and ceramics museum housed in a historic 19th-century building in Durbanville.

A place for those days when you want some art without committing to a huge museum for several hours. Rust-en-Vrede is housed in a historic 19th-century building and brings several spaces together: three exhibition galleries, art studios and the Clay Museum the first museum of its kind in South Africa dedicated to ceramic art. Its collection focuses largely on contemporary South African ceramics and continues to grow.
Exhibitions change regularly, so check what’s currently on before you go. Make sure to visit The Cube too a small experimental space showcasing contemporary ceramicists, sculptors and visual artists.
Interesting fact: the Clay Museum opened in 1986, and its location is no coincidence Durbanville has a long history connected to clay quarries, brickfields and pottery.
